NaturalPoint Makes Motion Capture Accessible to Everyone at GDC
Corvallis, Oregon—March 2, 2007—NaturalPoint Inc., will conduct a live demonstration of OptiTrack Studio, the premium motion capture system for a consumer-level price, at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) from March 7-9. OptiTrack provides a flexible entry into motion capture, by offering different SDK and software toolkits to fit animator's needs. At less than a tenth of the cost of other market offerings, OptiTrack will enable any animator or developer to set up their own cameras around daily work stations, capturing the motion they desire, whenever they please.
NaturalPoint's unique toolkits are scheduled to begin rolling out this summer, with specific solutions for Point Cloud, Rigid Body, and Full Body motion capture. The Point Cloud toolkit allows markers to be tracked across three or more OptiTrack cameras, providing X, Y, Z coordinates for the markers. The Rigid Body toolkit adds the ability to create multiple Rigid Bodies from clusters of markers. These may then be tracked in full six degrees of freedom (6DoF). Full Body allows users to set up six or more OptiTrack cameras to capture and create a skeleton in real time. For all toolkits, additional cameras can be added to increase the robustness and size of the tracking volume.
OptiTrack's hardware is also scalable, allowing animators to add more cameras for increased fidelity. As many as 12 cameras can be connected to a single computer to cover over 20 square feet. The second OptiTrack camera, FLEX:C120, was released last December and can transmit simple marker data or grey scale images from the infrared spectrum at 120 frames a second. Multiple cameras can be perfectly synchronized with an optional sync cable, and marker data is sent to your computer over USB. New cameras offering various resolutions and sampling speeds are expected later this year.
President and CTO, Jim Richardson, will be available to answer questions and provide demonstrations of OptiTrack's upcoming software, taking place at NaturalPoint's public booth, 654 WH. Private meetings may be arranged by appointment or by booth visit.
